MBB | Gee-Gees Too Much for Voyageurs
The Laurentian University Men's Basketball team opened their toughest home weekend of the season in a matchup with the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Coming off a couple of tough road losses, the Voyageurs looked to right the ship against Ottawa. Following a level first half, the Vee's were unable to keep up the pace, ultimately falling to the Gee-Gees 74-59.

The first half saw one team come out strong and the other make uncharacteristic mistakes. It was clear from the tip that the Vee's put the losses behind them and we're focused solely on winning this game. Ottawa on the other hand seemed to have their minds elsewhere. The Gee-Gees, normally one of the OUA's best, missed easy shots and made numerous questionable pass attempts. Despite their faulty play, Ottawa still saw themselves leading after the first half. Laurentian failed to truly take advantage of Ottawa's misplays, often coming up short on points following a turnover or offensive rebound. This was an area of excellence for the Gee-Gees in the opening half, who won themselves second and even third chances on many of their missed shots.

Ottawa came out of the break a new team, or rather their normal selves. What followed was a 31 point quarter from the Gee-Gees, earning them a 20 point lead. Their excellent quarter was complimented by one of Laurentian's worst. The team had trouble defending the paint and on the opposite end, couldn't sink a shot to save their lives. The deficit caused by the poor quarter was too much for Laurentian to overcome, despite their 22 point fourth.
As has almost become tradition, Kadre Gray led the Voyageurs and the game with his 18 points. The loss drops the Vee's under .500 for the first time this season.
They will face off tomorrow against another of the OUA's elite teams in the Carleton Ravens (2-0). The action gets underway at 8PM tomorrow at the Ben Avery Gymnasium.
