Phil Parker – Head Coach
Coach
Parker is entering his 10th season of coaching with the Voyageurs. It is his
5th year as head coach. Phil spent the first five years coaching with Dr.
Jeno Tihanyi learning from one of the world’s best.
In his first year as head coach, Coach Parker produced two OUA Champions
and had three CIS finalists. Since that first season, Coach Parker has
produced an additional 6 OUA Champion gold medal winners, 13 CIS finalists
and has had 5 consecutive years producing Laurentian University Athletes of
the Year. Over his five years as head coach, Coach Parker has sent 25
swimmers to the Canadian University (CIS) National Swim Championships and
has had swimmers reach finals in each of those championships.
A graduate of both the B.Sc. (Kinesiology) and M.Sc. (Human Development)
programs here at Laurentian University, Coach Parker is able to help his
swimmers not only achieve great feats in the water, but also helps his
student-athletes succeed in the classroom as well. Coach Parker is a Level
III certified coach and a member of the Canadian Swimming Coaches
Association. Both Coach Parker and assistant coach Alain Delorme take it
upon themselves to not only teach these individuals to swim fast, but also
to prepare these student-athletes for the world that awaits them after
university and swimming is over. The skills acquired form this program will
put these individuals a step above the rest once they graduate.
Outside the pool, Coach Parker is also a part-time professor within the
School of Human Kinetics here at Laurentian University teaching first year
students Anatomy and Kinesiology. Phil also enjoys traveling, mountain
biking, and live music. He is a huge hockey fan and is the king of winning
hockey pools throughout the city. Coach Parker lives with his fiancée Tamara
here in Sudbury.
