Bio

For a decade and a half, Coach Lafraniere has been at the helm of the Men’s and Women’s Curling Teams.  During the 2016 - 2017 season, Coach Lafraniere guided our women’s team to Laurentian University’s first OUA team banner in 14 years and first U Sports Championship for Laurentian since the 1990 - 1991 season.  Coach Lafraniere followed-up the 2017 U Sports’ victory with a second women’s national U Sports title during the 2018 - 2019 season.  Since then, Coach Lafraniere has guided our women to a U Sports bronze medal during the 2022 – 2023 season and a second OUA banner during the 2023 – 2024 season.
 
Coach Lafraniere is a Chartered Professional Coach with NCCP Competition Development (formerly Level III) certification credentials.  Coach Lafraniere is also a NCCP Multi-Sport Coach Developer, and Master Coach Developer and Evaluator for the Northern Ontario Curling Association.  Coach Lafraniere additionally served as Director of the Ontario Curling Council and has served as one of their High Performance Program members.
 
Coach Lafraniere is the former Director of the Amethyst Curling Camp in Sudbury, and has been an instructor at the Alberta Rocks Curling Camp in Edmonton (Alberta Curling Federation) and the Trillium Curling Camp in Waterloo (Ontario Curling Association) during the past decade.  He has previously worked with World Curling Federation high performance athletes in Germany, and in his role as a Coach Evaluator, he has worked with Curling Québec to certify their provincial coaches.  He has instructed at a number of other high performance curling clinics and coaching symposiums over the years, and has coached bantam, junior, and high school curling teams.
 
As a competitive curler, Coach Lafraniere has played in provincial junior and men’s championships.  He has competed in three national championships, having curled in the Canadian Junior Championships.  He also represented Laurentian University at two Canadian University Championships, while being named an OUA All-Star and CIS Academic All-Canadian during his time at Laurentian University.
 
Lafraniere is a Laurentian University alumnus and former Executive Board Member of the Laurentian University Alumni Association, having graduated from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.  Coach Lafraniere is currently the Principal of Lockerby Composite High School and Sessional Faculty Member at Laurentian University’s School of Education.  He is looking forward to another exciting and successful curling campaign with both the Men’s and Women’s Voyageur Curling Teams.
