The Laurentian Voyageurs season resumed on Friday against the Nipissing Lakers.
Previously the Voyageurs found themselves victorious against the Lakers with a 7-4 win in the battle of the North.
Unfortunately since then, the Voyageurs have found themselves in a six game losing streak leading up to this contest.
The first period was complied of turnovers and icing calls as both teams were getting used to each other and as well recovering from a lengthy holiday break. Both teams found the net but were unable to score as Domenic Graham turned away nine Voyageurs shots and Michael Giugovaz turned away ten Laker shots.
The second period was the most extensive as a total of five goals were scored in just twenty minutes. The Lakers would strike first just three minutes into the second as Trevor Bush nailed a shot from the point, and ignited the Lakers offence. Erik Robichaud, Colby Tower and Gael Lubwele would all find the back of the net in the second period and give themselves a four goal advantage.
Laurentian struck back after the third Lakers goal as Richard Therrien beat Graham as he stormed his way into the high slot and had a slick pass from Hayden Hopkins and Jacob Smith. This would be Therrien's ninth goal and twentieth point on the season as he is second on the Voyageurs in points.
Unfortunately after the Voyageurs goal Gael Lubwele would add his goal to close the second with a 4-1 Lakers advantage.
The third period resulted in a Lakers insurance empty net goal from Dylan Staples and that would but the Lakers up 5-1 ending the Voyageurs hopes and dreams of a comeback.
The Lakers were an offensive powerhouse in this contest as they were able to beat Giugovaz a total of four times and as well one empty net goal giving the Lakers a win and extending the Voyageurs loss streak too seven.
The Voyageurs have a chance at redemption come January 11th against the Queen's Gaels in hopes of getting out of their current rut.
