TRK | Wallingford Golden in Toronto as Vees Prep for OUA Championships
The Laurentian University Voyageurs track and field team completed their final regular-season preparations this past weekend by competing at both the Hal Brown Memorial Meet at the University of Toronto, and the University of Guelph Last Chance Meet.
With the OUA Championships just one week away, the Vees were looking to secure final qualifying marks and improve their provincial rankings across both individual and relay events.
At the Hal Brown meet, the Voyageur men were again led by senior standout, Keon Wallingford (North Bay) who took home gold in the men's mile event in a time of 4 minutes 21.67 seconds. Second year kinesiology student Delali Afidenyo (Kingston) also earned a medal, by placing second in the men's triple jump with a best of 12.97 metres.
On the women's side, Laurentian's 4 X 200 metre relay team including Milena Kulik, Finlay Cuza, Lucia Salmaso and Alissa Diavolitsis earned a sliver medal with a season's best time of 1 minute 48.30 seconds. This time moves the Vees into the 10th place ranking in the OUA. In the individual events, Diavolitsis eclipsed the OUA Championship qualifying standard in the women's 300 metre event with a time of 42.69 seconds, placing her fourth in the event.
At the Guelph Last Chance Meet, the focus for the Vees was on the 60 metre sprint event with five team members establishing new personal bests including first year SPAD student Christian Hodgins (Sudbury) who set an OUA Championship qualifying mark with a time of 7.29 seconds. Other Vees setting personal bests in the event were Gabe Gauvreau (Sudbury), Corey Lacroix (Sudbury), Alan Wilkin (Manitoulin) and Finlay Cuza (Sudbury).
The Voyageurs now shift their focus to the post-season and will send a team of seventeen athletes to the OUA Track & Field Championships, hosted by York University at the Toronto Track & Field Centre, February 20-21, 2026.
