TRK | Voyageurs Earn Silver, Bronze and Ten Additional Top 10 Finishes at York Open
The Laurentian varsity track and field team continued their regular season of indoor competition this past weekend at the 53rd annual York University Open in Toronto.
The Voyageurs earned two relay medals and an additional ten individual top-10 results over the two days of competition.
The Laurentian women's 4 X 200 metre relay team of Naomi Palmer (Sudbury), Maeva Sullivan (Sudbury), Shelley Hladin (Chartierville, QC) and Alissa Diavolitsis (Sudbury) won a silver medal with a season's best time of 1 minute 51.81 seconds. On the men's side in the same event, the team of Skyler Savage-Perreault (Sudbury), Josh Kim (Sudbury), Abdul Abiodun (Sudbury) and Tristan Routhier (Saint Sixte, QC) ran to a bronze medal in a time of 1:35.48, also a season's best.
The top individual performer for the Vees was third year nursing student Brandon Radey (Sudbury) who placed fourth in the men's 600 metre event with a time of 1:23.39. The top individual performer on the women's side was Hladin who placed 5th in the triple jump (10.98 metres) and 8th in the long jump (5.11 metres). Other top-10 finishers included Charlotte Grenier(Sudbury), 7th in the women's 3,000 metres in 11:09.26; Alissa Diavolitsis, 7th in the 300 metres in 42.62; Georgia Lepage (Sudbury), 8th in the 3,000 metres in 11:24.31; and Claire Scholl (Newmarket), 10th in the 1,000 metre event in 3:12.65.
"After a short turnaround following our meet in Montreal last weekend, we are very happy with how the team performed this weekend. We are definitely gaining the experience we need in the relays as we prepare for the provincial championships at the end of the month" commented Vees head coach Darren Jermyn.
