TRK | Voyageurs Grab Five Top-10s, 17 PBs at McGill
The Laurentian University Track & Field team showcased a strong performance this past weekend at the 30th annual McGill Team Challenge in Montreal. Competing against 18 other Canadian universities in one of the nation's largest indoor meets, the Voyageurs achieved five top-10 finishes and a total of seventeen new personal best performances.
The Laurentian women's team placed an impressive 9th overall in the final team scoring, while the men's team finished 15th amidst a highly competitive field.
Laurentian's men's 4 X 800 metre relay team earned the highest placing of the weekend for the Vees by finishing fourth. The "all-Sudbury" team of Brandon Radey, Shiloh Sauve, Adam Urso and Travis Annett clocked a time of 8:21.78. Other relays teams earning top-10 finishes were the women's 4 X 800m (Claire Scholl, Abby Lanteigne, Georgia Lepage, Charli Borak), 6th in 10:07.99, and the women's 4 X 200m team (Milena Kulik, Finlay Cuza, Shelley Hladin, Alissa Diavolitsis), 7th in 1:44.83. This time is the 3rd fastest in Laurentian school history. Although outside the top-10, the men's 4 X 200m team (Josh Kim, Gabe Gauvreau, Christian Hodgins, Abdul Abiodun) also ran the 3rd fastest time in school history, placing 11th in 1:34.86.
In the individual events, Voyageur women establishing new personal bests included Valerie Vaillancourt (3000m - 10:35.60 and 1500m - 4:58.8), Charlotte Grenier (3000m - 10:49.47), Claire Scholl (1000m - 3:05.62 and 600m - 1:44.61); Abby Lanteigne (1000m - 3:06.70 and 1500m - 4:54.45), Charli Borak (1500m – 5:08.14), Lucia Salmaso (300m – 44.35), and Sadie Bridgeman (60m – 8.87).
On the men's side, new personal bests were set by Abdul Abiodun (60m – 7.13), Christian Hodgins (60m – 7.44), Adam Urso (600m – 1:25.45), Corey Lacroix (600m – 1:28.94), Adam Wilkin (600m – 1:31.68, 1000m – 2:47.18), and Shiloh Sauve (1000m – 2:36.81).
"McGill always hosts an excellent meet and with the depth of competition in each event, many our athletes were pushed to a higher level of performance this weekend", noted Vees Head Coach, Darren Jermyn. "Our relay passes and times continue to improve but we still have a lot of work to do with the OUA Championships now only four weeks away."
The Vees will next compete at the York Open, January 30th and 31st at the Toronto Track and Field Centre.
