On Saturday night, the Voyageurs men's hockey team were topped by the UOIT Ridgebacks 5-3.
The Voyageurs got off to a good start as Nicolas Dionne scored at 3:44 while Nicolas Thommen picked up the lone assist.
The Ridgebacks responded minutes later on the power play when asked Yuill beat Gunner Rivers to tie the game at 6:13. The first period ended deadlocked at 1-1 despite the Vees outshooting UOIT 11-8.
UOIT jumped out to their first lead of the game when Josh Maguire scored at 6-13, giving the Ridgebacks a 2-1 lead.
Mike Robinson increased the Ridgebacks lead at 3-1 minutes later at 10:30.
The Ridgebacks finished their three goal period when Ben Blasko capitalized on a UOIT powerplay chance, sending both teams to the second intermission wth the Ridgebacks leading 4-1.
Danny Elser put UOIT up 5-1 early in the third for UOIT af 3:25.
The Voyageurs, down but not out, turned it up a notch in an effort to even the score.
Tyler Shaw brought the Vees within three at 5:14 on a play assisted by Brent Pedersen and Luke McCaw.
Pedersen then added a tally of his own at 12:38, bringing the score to 5-3. Shaw picked up an assist and so did Dionne.
Pedersen's goal was the closest that Laurentian would get in their quest for victory on Saturday. With the loss, the Vees finish the weekend 0-2 and will look to regroup this week and secure a win next weekend.
