The Laurentian Voyageurs played against the Queen's Gaels this Friday night in a heated match on the Laurentian University International Student Night.
The first period scoring action started quick and efficiently as Slater Dogget busted out of the penalty box behind the Voyageurs defence and received a pass from Stephen Gibson. Doggett beat Michael Giugovaz just two minutes and fifty seconds into the period.
The Gaels would beat Giugovaz with five minutes left in the first period. The goal was scored by Henry Thompson on the powerplay to put the Gaels up by 2-0.
As the period was closing the Voyageurs had an offensive charge as Derek Varrin charged the Gael zone and fed Luke McCaw out front of the net for the first Voyageur goal of the night. McCaw beat the Gaels Justin Fazio to make it a 2-1 game nearing the end of the first.
As the dying seconds of the first we're ticking down, Nicolas Dionne was sent on a breakaway and slid one through Justin Fazio's five hole, scoring with just two seconds showing on the clock, tieing the game going into the second period.
The second period kept the crowd on the edge of their seats as the period had many chances in both teams favour. Neither team was able to capitalize, therefore sending the Gaels as the Voyageurs into a third period still knotted at 2.
The Gaels were the ones to break through in the third period as they were able to score two more goals on the Voyageurs which would end the scoring in this match up.
The Voyageurs would lose 4-2 against the Gaels in a well fought match by both teams.
The Vees will have another opportunity for a win come January 12th against the UOIT Ridgebacks.
