For their first game of the 2018/2019 regular season, Laurentian hosted the Nipissing Lakers. After some-close calls against their 705 rivals in previous seasons, the Voyageurs were in crucial need of a team win to start their year. Though the game came slow to Laurentian in the opening quarter, they were able to speed things up as the game progressed. The final result was a 98-76 win in the home team's favour.
Laurentian was led by third year guard, Kadre Gray, last season's U SPORTS Male Athlete of the Year. Gray earned a triple double with his 32 points, 13 assists and 11 rebounds. Third year guard Josis Mikia-Thomas was also a major contributor in the match, tallying 18 points and 7 rebounds.
Leading scorer for the Lakers was Marcus Lewis with 25 points.
The Voyageurs will have a short rest before they face off again on home court this Saturday, this time matching up against the Lakehead Thunderbirds with tipoff scheduled for 8pm.
