The Laurentian Voyageurs started their 2019-2020 campaign on a strong, positive note on Friday night, as they beat the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks by a score of 90-57.
The Voyageurs outplayed the Ridgebacks in each quarter. The Voyageur defence was spectacular throughout the match as they held the Ridgebacks to just 29.2% shooting on the night. Compared to the Voyageurs' numbers, they shot 43.3% and their charge was led by Kadre Gray with 22 points and Joseph Hlady with 21 points. Without a doubt, Hlday's 11 points in the second quarter and Gray's 11 points in the third helped the Voyageurs achieve the distance they required to beat the Ridgebacks.
When asked to evaluate his team's performance and why they were so successful in their matchup today, Sam Ivey credited his team's desire to win and their remarkable defence: "Initially we came out with a lot of energy. Defence was good. We were ready to play. And the crowd helped [as well]. Defensively we held them scoreless for a long period of time during the game [which] helped [us] and then we got on running on offense."
The Voyageurs are right back in action tomorrow, October 26, against the Queen's Gaels. Tip off is scheduled for 8 pm.
