WBB | Voyageurs Beat Varsity Blues to Close Out First Half of Season with .500 Record
The Laurentian Voyageurs women's basketball team rebounded impressively from a tough loss to TMU, earning a strong 68–57 road victory over the University of Toronto to close out the first half of their season.
Both teams opened the game evenly, sitting tied at 7–7 through six minutes. From there, the Voyageurs took control—closing the first quarter on an 11–2 run to build a nine-point lead. Laurentian kept the pressure on in the second, outscoring the Varsity Blues 20–15 and taking a comfortable 38–24 lead into halftime.
The momentum continued after the break. With U of T unable to generate consistent offence, the Voyageurs extended their lead to 20 points by the end of the third quarter. Laurentian pushed the advantage to as many as 24 in the final frame before the Blues closed late to narrow the final margin. Despite the cosmetic improvement, the game was never in doubt—Laurentian delivered one of their most complete performances of the season.
Remarkably, all but one of Laurentian's points came from four players: Molly Adams, Emilie Lafond, Claudia Pellerin, and Audrey-Anne Labreche. Emilie Lafond led the Vees with 19 points and seven rebounds, continuing her excellent form. Claudia Pellerin notched her seventh double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Molly Adams provided another spark off the bench, scoring 17 points on four made threes. Audrey-Anne Labreche also filled the stat sheet, recording 17 points and an impressive seven steals.
Laurentian's defensive performance was a major storyline, forcing 24 turnovers and converting them into 29 points.
The Voyageurs enter the December break with a 6–6 record and plenty of momentum heading into the second half of the season.
