WBB | Queen’s Uses Big Fourth Quarter to Beat Laurentian and Remain Undefeated
The Laurentian women's basketball team returned home following a four-game road trip. In a game that featured twelve ties and seven lead changes, the Voyageurs suffered a narrow 74–65 defeat to Queen's.
The opening quarter was tightly contested, with both teams battling early. The Gaels outscored the Voyageurs 6–2 over the final two minutes to take a 17–14 lead after one. Queen's opened up an eight-point advantage midway through the second quarter, but Laurentian closed the half on a 13–5 run to send the teams to intermission tied.
Laurentian came out strong in the second half, scoring the first six points—four of them from Emilie Lafond. After a Queen's timeout, the Gaels responded by scoring eight of the next ten to even the game at 40. The teams stayed neck-and-neck for the remainder of the quarter and entered the fourth tied at 47–47.
Queen's started the final quarter on an 8–2 run, prompting a Laurentian timeout. Out of the break, Cadence Pecore drilled one of her three threes on the night to cut the deficit back to three. However, Queen's quickly answered, as Haley Barbieri and Bella Gaudet each connected from deep within a minute to seize control. The Gaels held on for the 74–65 win to remain undefeated at 6–0, while Laurentian dropped to 2–5.
Despite the loss, Laurentian saw strong performances from several key players. Cadence Pecore (20 points), Emilie Lafond (16), and Claudia Pellerin (16) helped the Vees go toe-to-toe with one of the province's top teams. Ultimately, the Queen's bench proved decisive, outscoring Laurentian's 28–9.
Laurentian is back in action tomorrow when they host Ontario Tech.
