A challenging season for the Voyageurs men's soccer team continued as they lost yet another tough match on Saturday afternoon against the UOIT Ridgebacks by a score of 1-0.
Both teams were on even footing during the first half but only one was able to find the back of the net and that was UOIT when they scored at 12:01 on a marker from Mateo Marques with an assist from Bryan Uyiosa. No change would occur in this score line as both teams jostled to add one more goal but, to their agony, each defense held its own until the first half came to an end.
Both teams came out firing in the second half, each trading a number of shots and corner kicks but to no avail. As the match progressed, tempers began to flare and both teams got into a bit of foul trouble with Laurentian taking the brunt of it as Zef Kraja was shown a red card. Despite all the negativity, the Voyageurs pushed hard and left it all on the field but UOIT's defense prevented them from a comeback.
Coach Castrechino was quick to note his team's effort and mentality going into their next games. "Boys are putting the effort in but unable to put ball in net."
The Voyageurs will now look to rebound against the Trent Excalibur on Sunday at 2 15 pm.
