Coming off a disappointing 4–1 loss to TMU, Laurentian's men's soccer team needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive against Toronto. However, a 3–0 victory for the Varsity Blues eliminated the Voyageurs from playoff contention.
Despite facing plenty of pressure, the Laurentian backline held strong through the opening 35 minutes, helped by a couple of big saves from Nate Shull in net. That all changed in a hurry, as Gianluca Scurti scored two goals in quick succession — both coming off dangerous crosses, one from Michael Osorio and the other from Niklas Hallam — completely shifting the momentum of the match. The home side carried their 2–0 advantage into halftime.
In the second half, Laurentian amped up the pressure and created multiple chances but couldn't find the back of the net. As a sign of how the day went for the Vees, U of T forward Niklas Hallam pounced on a loose ball and scored his seventh goal of the season on the Varsity Blues'
first real opportunity of the half. With the game slipping away, Laurentian pushed hard and generated several quality scoring opportunities, but still couldn't get one past Filip Zendelek in goal. The Toronto keeper finished with four saves in the shutout win.
Now eliminated from playoff contention, Laurentian will close out their season next weekend at home with matches against U of T and Trent.
